IGMUN is an opportunity for participants of all ages and walks of life to step into the shoes of UN Ambassadors and debate a range of issues on the UN agenda. This all-day program is designed as a teaching and learning conference intended for both novices and delegates with prior Model UN experience.
Anyone with a valid address in the United States above the age of 16 with a commitment and desire to become globally engaged on a local level is welcome to attend.Â
Our partner Best Delegate works to train today’s students into tomorrow’s leaders through Model United Nations. You'll have access to in-program training the day of the event, and you can read up in advance using this guide provided by Best Delegate.
Absolutely not! That’s the premise of IGMUN: to provide everyone who is interested with an opportunity to simulate what happens at the United Nations. We have lowered the barrier of participation for this event by doing the research for each delegate; you just have to read the Country Profile and Background Guide and actively roleplay on the day of the program!
During the program, we will be welcoming our partners from Best Delegate who will provide training for all delegates to help them prepare just prior to going into committee sessions. You can also review their handbook for additional preparation beforehand.
When you register for, you will have the chance to indicate your preferred committee (i.e. the topics) and within those committees, the preferred member state (i.e. country) for which you would like to serve as a delegate.Â
Assignments will be distributed approximately a week before the event and will be made on a rolling basis until the registration deadline. It is important to note that preferences for committee or country assignments are not guaranteed and are based upon a variety of factors and determinants.
This is the fun part! During committee work, you will be guided by committee leadership (Committee Chair, Vice Chair, and Rapporteur) as you participate in the simulation. After hearing from a subject matter expert on the committee topic, you will roleplay as a delegate from a member state, and will discuss, debate, and potentially negotiate and develop resolutions with other committee members.
This is all while you are walking in the shoes of those who have to make these decisions and participate in these discussions as representatives from UN member states. Refine your presentation skills! Flex your negotiation chops! Reach out and help to resolve conflict!Â
The Opening Plenary and Closing Ceremony are both on Hopin, while the committee work will be held via Zoom meeting. You will receive the appropriate login information via email closer to the event. If you have registered and have not received the appropriate login information by Thursday, October 20, please email membership@unausa.org.Â
Each committee has leadership which will help to offer guidance and facilitate the progression of the simulation. A Committee Chair (someone with prior MUN experience) along with a Vice Chair and Rapporteur will all be present and can offer support during the committee portion of the program. If at any time you need additional assistance, you can email membership@unausa.org as this email will be monitored by UNA-USA staff during the program to offer support.
